Oxytocin is a nine-amino acid neuropeptide produced primarily in the hypothalamus. FDA-approved for labor induction and postpartum hemorrhage, it has also been studied for effects on social behavior, anxiety, and autism spectrum disorders. It acts on oxytocin receptors in the brain and periphery.
